Multi-Way Survey Stratification and Sampling

چکیده

For some populations there may be two or more stratifying criteria that are desirable in the sample design. Multi-way stratification allows increased precision of estimates of each of the variables whose precision is increased by typical univariate estimators corresponding to singlecriteria designs. The sample need not be allocated to every multi-way population cell induced by a set of single-criteria designs. As a special case, a solution to a problem posed in Neyman (1934) is presented.

“Equivalent Linear Composition” as an Efficient Stratification Factor in Multipurpose Surveys

Horticulture survey is a multi-purpose survey which is conducted ad hoc by Statistical Center of Iran (SCI). Availability of survey variables in the sampling frame suggests a multivariate stratification in each province based on its desired variables for acquiring a higher efficiency. There are several ways to stratify the sampling frame considering all stratification variables, such as using s...

Accounting for Multi - stage Sample Designs in Complex Sample Variance

Nationally representative samples of large populations often have complex design features for a variety of reasons (e.g., cost efficiency). For purposes of estimating sampling variances based on complex multi-stage sample designs involving stratification and cluster sampling, the sampling error codes provided by survey organizations in public use survey data files often assume “ultimate cluster...

Design-based versus Model-based Methods: a Comparative Study Using Longitudinal Survey Data

Survey data analysis using complex sampling designs ought to account for clustering, stratification and unequal probability of selection. Design-based and model-based methods are two commonly used routes taken to account for such survey designs. Several studies of cross-sectional survey designs have shown that these two approaches provide similar results when the model fits the data well. The p...

Improving the Stratification of Medical Institutions for Stratified Sampling in the Patient Survey

The Patient Survey is a designated statistical survey conducted every three years with the objective of obtaining basic data on the current status of patients in medical institutions in Japan. Since stratified sampling is used in this survey, suitable construction of strata is essential for achieving low error rates in the estimation of the number of patients having various diseases. We investi...
